Registrars Foreword

The fifth conference in the series of ““Growth, development and transformation of the Project and Construction Management Professions” intends to offer a sequel to the launch of the Launch of the Presidential Forum at the Conference in 2016. The SACPCMP Transformation Committee will dovetail with the Presidential Forum to do its utmost in fast tracking the transformation process in the industry- a dire need indeed!

Similar to the Conference last year, this year will also see the Conference dedicating a day to place transformation issues under the proverbial microscope. The SACPCMP is exploring innovative ways to addressing the critical issue of transformation and targeting the youth, especially from historically disadvantaged communities. These include, but is not restricted to:

·         Youth activations using a reputable youth marketing and activation company. The attraction of youth into the profession has for long been a conference resolution. This is a move in that direction.

·         Schools outreach whereby the various career options will be presented. The problem of a lack of Blacks and females in the industry has also been discussed as a Conference resolution. The SACPCMP is taking the necessary steps to address this critical issue.

·         Using multimedia tools to target the youth and to dispel myths and misconceptions

·         Developing a youth-friendly portal which may be used as a repository

·         Using social media to encourage dialogue with the youth

·         Facilitating proactive community radio programmes to engage communities and the youth in particular

On a broader level, the SACPCMP will use this conference to generate robust debate and deliberations in the quest to finding sustainable solutions to historical as well as developing problem areas.

The Conference also seeks to develop resolutions that will see the SACPCMP and its cohort of staff and Council members using various platforms to raise concerns that require resolution. The SACPCMP will act as a conduit and a “voice” for those who raise these common areas that merit attention. The SACPCMP will use various communication platforms and tools to report back to you at opportune times.

The Conference has two distinct streams this year. Whilst Day 1 (Master class) and Day 2 will focus on technical issues relating to project and construction management, Day 3 will focus on transformation issues. This Conference will include exciting topics such as cyber laundering, corruption in the industry and a plethora of exciting topics.

In this fifth conference, I encourage you to firm up established partnerships and alliances and to forge new partnerships and to engage and seek ways in which there could be synergies among the professionals, VAs, academia, Government, state entities, contractors and other key players.

Finally, I would like to thank you for taking your time in attending the 5th Project and Construction Management Professions Conference and hope you will glean more knowledge from the sessions that will be presented by experts in their different fields. The conference has been validated 14 CPD hours over the two days and three hours for each Master Class by the SACPCMP.
